Loreena entiende su música como un medio de comunicación entre las distintas culturas, y así lo expresa en este canto, “The Dark Night of the Soul” (La noche oscura del alma), con letra del conocido poema de Juan de la Cruz, que forma parte de su álbum The Mask and Mirror (1994), que fue Disco de Oro en Estados Unidos.
